Employee Spotlight Interview with Mary Kate Long
In your own words, what is your role at ACP/Verticomm?
I oversee our cash application team, as well as working with AR and AP. We process, post, and apply payments. I assist with monthly reconciliations and reporting.
How long have you been with ACP/Verticomm?
4 years.
Describe where you grew up and how it's special to you.
Loudoun County, Virginia. We lived in the same house for most of my life, and had lots of family nearby. It's special to me to have a place I can go back to that is filled with so many good memories!
What are some of your favorite ways to spend the weekend?
Skiing as much as I can, I like to get into the mountains. Or I enjoy staying in to read a good book and eat some good food!
What's your taste in music like? Do you listen to it while you work?
I like to think I'm not picky, I tend to find something I like and listen to it forever. You could find me listening to a lot of Taylor Swift, The Killers, movie/musical soundtracks, or maybe a classical ballet if I'm trying to focus.
Do you have any special talents or a hobby you'd like to try?
I can solve a Rubik's cube. I would love to get back into baking this year, I once made a sourdough starter and loved making bread.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I would love to have teleportation. I love to travel, and I could do so much more if I didn't have to sit in an airplane!
Where would you go on your dream vacation?
Right now my dream vacation would be to Finland to see the northern lights in a glass igloo!
Do you have a go-to productivity method?
I like to make lists to visualize what I need to do in a day and to see my progress towards my goals.
What do you like most about working at ACP?
I have always appreciated the people at ACP. Since I started I have felt comfortable and supported to be able to be able to ask questions, learn new things, and continuously challenge myself. I love learning, and I have had so many opportunities here to take on new tasks and also to progress in my career.
How have you grown professionally since starting at ACP?
I started at ACP as an Accounts Receivable Specialist. My goal when I started working here was to grow professionally and learn as much as I can. I have been able to grow from there to learn our Accounts Payable side. As well as reconciliations, reporting. I have had the opportunity to take on managing a team. I have grown so much more than I expected, and I am excited for what the future holds!
If you could become an expert on any topic in an instant, what would it be?
I would love to be a language expert, it would be amazing to understand foreign languages.
